Apostille on the diploma - original or notarized copy

As a rule, a diploma is required when applying to a foreign university, or when applying for a job. Therefore, first you need to check with the university or employer: put an apostille on the original or on a copy. Apostille on a notarized copy of the diploma is accepted extremely rarely (if you make a notarized copy of an already apostilled diploma, and then put an apostille on this copy). It is necessary to approach this issue carefully, because often the apostille on the original diploma is the main requirement of the receiving party.

Where do they put an apostille on a diploma?
In Ukraine, the apostille seal on the original educational documents is affixed by the Ministry of Education and Science in the city of Kyiv.

If you apostille a diploma, it will become legal for all countries participating in the Hague Convention at once.

If a supplement to the diploma, in which the subjects and grades are indicated, is required for continuing education, it must be apostilled separately.

The document on which the apostille is affixed must meet the following requirements:

• the text, signatures and seals are clear, readable;
• the document is signed with pen or ink: pencil signatures are not allowed;
• there are no additions, unspecified corrections in the document;
• the diploma is certified with an official seal, signed by the rector;
• the signature on the document corresponds to the information about the full name, position of the head.

You can get an apostille on a diploma/certificate of both a new and an old style. However, in the case of a document issued in the USSR (in the form of a book), you will have to wait a little longer, since the Ministry of Education and Science makes a request to the educational institution where the document was issued.
